At least three people have been confirmed dead following the raging floods that caused havoc within Nairobi County on Sunday, March 24, police say.
Among those killed is a police officer attached to Kamkunji Police Station who was swept by floods after successfully rescuing four people who were trapped in a stall within County Bus Station, Nairobi.
The officer is said to have fallen into a manhole and swept together with his AK-47 rifle during the Sunday night incident.
"He was among three officers that had responded to a distress call after three women and a child were trapped in rubble following the collapse of a slab connecting two stalls in the area," Nairobi Police Boss Adamson Bungei said.
His body has not been found yet.
Two other people (Boda boda riders) were reported killed by the floods in Eastlands area of Nairobi.
Several motorists were also left stranded after their vehicles stalled in the floods.
Worst hit roads included the Nairobi Expressway and Ojijo Road where The Standard counted at least 5 stalled cars at the busy road that connects to Globe Roundabout.
