The United States of America Embassy in Kenya has issued a terror alert, warning of possible attacks in the capital city, Nairobi.

In a statement published on its official website on Thursday, February 9, the US Embassy said the possible attacks could target areas where there is high foot traffic such as malls and markets, restaurants, schools, police stations, places of worship, hotels, embassies and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists.

These locations, the embassy said, continue to be "attractive targets to terrorists".

As precaution, the US Embassy asked citizens to be vigilant at locations frequented by tourists or foreigners, review their personal security plans, be aware of their surroundings and monitor local media for updates.

Dr. Resila Onyango, the National Police Service spokesperson, told The Standard there is no cause for alarm as "officers continue to remain alert".
