Court has allowed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to withdraw an Sh1.1 billion graft case against former National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Mwangi.

Hajji's office had applied to have the case against Mwangi and two others dropped for failing lack of evidence showing any wrongdoing.

Mwangi was charged in 2018 alongside former CEO Simon Kirgotty, NHIF audit committee members Mudzo Nzili, Yussuf Ibrahim, Elly Nyaim, Danson Muchemi, and his company Webtribe ltd and 13 others.

In his verdict, trial Magistrate Victor Wakumile stated that the DPP had given sufficient grounds for dismissal.

He further gave the prosecution 15 days to review the entire file and inform the court of the way forward.

However, the DPP has withdrawn the charges against Muchemi, Webtribe, and Robert Muriithi, making Muchemi a state witness in the matter.
