Outgoing IEBC commissioner Abdi Guliye says he and some of his colleagues went into hiding after the announcement of the 2022 Election results in August.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Guliye said the commissioners were driven in a vehicle, the make of a Noah, to an unknown destination and it was only after three days that they left their hideout.
"After the Bomas announcement of the results, I recall going into Syberia in my own country together with commissioners Boya Molu and CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan. We went into hiding, we left our phones at Bomas, sent away our security and we rode in a Noah to an unknown location," said Guliye.
Guliye, whose tenure will be coming to an end tomorrow [Tuesday, January 17], says he has no regrets and apologies to make to anyone. He adds that he worked in accordance with the rule of law.
"As I leave office, I am satisfied that I did my best for my country and my people. I leave IEBC stronger and better than I found it. And as I leave, I have no apologies to make to anybody."
"I simply did my work in accordance with my oath of office that I took in 2017 and it is inevitable we have to be replaced," he added.
On his part, outgoing commissioner Boya Molu has requested parliamentarians to choose the incoming team of commissioners wisely.
"Parliament, as you vet commissioners, please ensure the commission is not populated by political stooges. This is a national commission, not a play of political rewards. Let's take political rewards elsewhere," said Molu.
