Four police officers, including a senior sergeant, have been arrested on allegations of attempted robbery.

The four, three sergeants and a corporal, were arrested on Monday, January 9, after allegedly attempting to rob two bank clients out of their Sh2 million.

The two, identified as Hassan Omar and Mohamed Hassan, had withdrawn money from Absa Bank, Mama Ngina Street branch in Nairobi, when they were allegedly accosted by the four police officers.

The cops allegedly bundled the victims into their car, and asked to be given the bag containing the cash.

The police officers said one of the men, Mohamed Hassan, was being sought for an unspecified crime.

Nairobi County Police Commander Adamson Bungei told The Standard that the two men raised the alarm, attracting the attention of security officers manning an adjacent forex bureau.

The security personnel managed to secure the bag containing the Sh2 million.

The four police officers, however, managed to speed off. They were, nonetheless, intercepted at Muthaiga area and arrested after the registration plate of their vehicle, a Toyota Premio, was widely circulated in police circles.

The suspects were disarmed and taken to the Nairobi Area DCI office for questioning.

Bungei said the suspects are likely to be charged with attempted robbery through the use of violence.
