Former KTN journalist Michael Gitonga appointed Secretary State functions

President William Ruto has appointed former KTN News anchor Michael Gitonga as Secretary for State functions.

Gitonga, who tweeted the new appointment on Saturday, January 7, thanked the Head of State for the opportunity saying, "with a new year comes new beginnings. I take this opportunity to that the President of Kenya William Ruto for the opportunity to serve this nation as Secretary of State Functions."

He will now be responsible for performing various media duties such as research, writing and reviewing press releases, and developing recommendations.

Before his appointment, Gitonga served as the Director of Communication in the office of the First Lady.

"I am indebted to the First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto. Your leadership and guidance are invaluable. I will work to the best of my ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this role, so help me God," he wrote.

Prior, he was a presenter and news anchor at The Standard Group, hosting a variety of shows.

Gitonga has experience in communications, creative branding, and consultancy.
