Uhuru appoints Lt. Gen. Peter Njiru Kenya Army Commander

Newly appointed Kenya Army Commander Lt. Gen. Peter Mbogo Njiru. 

President Uhuru Kenyatta has made changes in the military in his latest appointments, promotions and postings.

The changes saw the commander-in-chief promote Major General Peter Mbogo Njiru Mbodo to a Lieutenant-General and appoint him the new Commander of the Kenya Army.

Lt.Gen Mbogo will replace Lt.Gen Walter Koipaton who has retired after a four-year tour of duty.

Other changes in the Kenya Army are:

Brigadier David Kimaiyo has been promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Western Command.

Brigadier Juma Shee Mwinyikal has also been promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.

Brigadier Fredrick Leuria becomes a Major-General and has been appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in Charge of Operations, Plans, Doctrine and Training.

Brigadier Mungai Nyaga is promoted to Major-General and appointed Force Commander East African Community Regional Force for DRC.

Colonel William Kamoiro is promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander, Second Brigade.

Colonel Ahmed Mohamed is promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander, Special Operations Brigade.

Colonel Joel Muriungi is promoted to Brigadier and appointed commandant of the Recruits Training School.

Colonel Doughlas Mokwena promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Systems at Defence Headquarters.

Colonel David Kiprotich promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander, 8th Brigade.

Colonel Alice Muringo promoted to Brigadier but remains in the Legal Branch at Defence Headquarters.

Colonel Dr David Kimeli promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief Medical Officer of the Isiolo Regional Hospital.

Colonel Charles Ndirangu promoted to Brigadier too and appointed the Managing Director of the Defence Forces Food Processing Factory.

The following changes took place in the Kenya Airforce:

Brigadier Benard Waliaula promoted to Major General and appointed Director of Defence National Security Industries.

Colonel Mohamed Sala promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander of Laikipia Air Base.

Colonel Mohamed Dahir promoted to Brigadier and appointed Principal of Defence Forces Technical College.

Colonel Dr Justino Mutisya Muinde promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief Medical Officer, Eldoret Regional Hospital.

Colonel Apollo Ogola was also promoted to brigadier and appointed Senior Directing Staff Air at the National Defence College.

Colonel Hilary Biwot promoted to Brigadier and appointed Director of Kenya Space Agency.

Colonel Ziporah Kalondu Kioko promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Strategic Communication at the Defence Headquarters.

Changes in the Kenya Navy are:

Colonel John Wekesa promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Welfare and Compensation at the Defence Headquarters.

Colonel Timothy Stelu promoted to Brigadier and remain ADC to his excellency the President.
