A police officer and two private security guards are being held following a Sunday night robbery at the residence of industrialist Dr Manu Chandaria.

According to a statement by Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Police Constable Jared Makambe who was guarding the Muthaiga home of the businessman has been arrested alongside Judah Wafula and Stephen Omwega as law enforcers launch probe into the incident.

A preliminary investigation from Muthaiga Police Station, Nairobi, where the robbery was reported stated that Dr Chandaria’s home was raided in the wee hours of the night by two armed robbers who were wielding a pistol and a metal cutter.

The duo stole an unknown amount of money and pieces of jewellery before leaving the house.

“They ordered the reportee [sic] and his wife to give them money at gunpoint. He showed them the safe where they broke it and took away an unknown amount of money and some pieces of jewellery. They then left the house while firing using a G3 rifle,” the report read in part.

The DCI said, “The thugs then escaped while firing a G3 rifle alleged to have been stolen from the police officer on guard. Officers responding to the scene conducted thorough search leading to the recovery of the suspected stolen G3 rifle at a nearby bush.”

Dr Chandaria is a renowned businessman dealing in a chain of goods and a philanthropist with a penchant for bettering the healthcare services through the Manu Chandaria Foundation.
