Rashid Yakub named new Nairobi police commander

Nairobi and Coast regions have received new police commanders in mini changes announced by Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua.

Nairobi police chief Philip Ndolo was moved to Kiganjo Police Training College in Nyeri and named the Deputy Commandant.

The new Nairobi Region Police Commander is Rashid Yakub who has been in Mombasa in the same capacity.

Kiganjo Police Training College Deputy Commandant Gabriel Musau was named the new Coast Regional police boss.

Musau once worked in Mombasa as the Head of Operations. Many felt his transfer to the region would be efficient. Musau also worked as a personal assistant to at least three commissioners of police for a long period of time.

Ndolo, a long-serving police commander, served in North Eastern and was once the Director of Police Operations.

Yakub worked as the Western Regional Police Commander since 2019 before he was moved to coast in the same capacity.

He once accused Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko of assault. He later withdrew the charge.

The changes in Nairobi come in the midst of chaos being witnessed at City Hall, which insiders say may have prompted the decision to effect the changes.

On Tuesday, authorities dispatched the Head of Operations at Vigilance House, James Mwaniki, to head to City Hall to quell chaos between MCAs following claims that those at the scene were reluctant to take action.

But police headquarters said the Friday changes are normal and only aimed at boosting police operations.
