The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) is hiring 1,000 county workers to replace those retiring from service.

The recruitment will cost County Hall Sh120 million. The Public Service Commission (PSC), in an advertisement, announced available vacancies and urged interested parties to apply. The positions include 300 enforcement officers and 700 enforcement constables.

“Interested and qualified persons are requested to make their applications online through the commission's website - www.publicservice.go.ke or jobs portal: www.psckjobs.go.ke,” read the advert.

Applications must be received by 5pm, May 19, 2020. The posts were earmarked in the Nairobi County Government County Annual Development Plan 2020/2021 report, which allocated Sh120 million for the exercise.

PSC chairman Stephen Kirogo said yesterday the recruitment had been initiated by City Hall even before Governor Mike Sonko handed over the management of the county to NMS.

Mr Kirogo said City Hall had advertised for the vacancies before the deed of transfer of functions was operationalised, but the process was cancelled to allow for transition of the Mohammed Badi-led team to take over county business.

“What we are doing is succession planning for the inspectorate department, putting in place the new workforce,” Kirogo stated.

After this recruitment, the total number of workers seconded to NMS will stand at 6,852.

“In three years 75 per cent of the staff will retire. There will be a huge gap in the workforce,” Kirogo added.
