The former Presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth’s mother Rahab Wambui Muhuni has died, the family has said.
The 86-year-old died Thursday morning at Aga Khan University Hospital, where she has been receiving treatment since December last year.
Leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Dr Mukhisa Kituyi condoled with the family, describing the late Wambui as a visionary person.
“I pray for God’s comfort and providence in this difficult period of mourning,” the President said in a message posted on State House’s Twitter handle.
Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi, a close confidant to Kenneth’s family said Wambui died after a long illness.
“We lost her today morning after a long illness, she has fought a long battle, but she has gone to be with the Lord,” said the MP.
In her Kirwara village in Gatanga, the residents mourned her as they remembered how she attended community and church functions.
Ignatius Gichuhi described the late as a mother who stood with her family and readily assisted the community.
“Kirwara community has lost a person who championed their interests in education and health sectors,” said Gichuhi.
