OCS under fire over missing man

The High Court has ordered Buru Buru OCS Johnstone Matoke to appear in court next week on Thursday to explain the mysterious disappearance of a man they had arrested last year.

Mr Matoke was ordered to appear and testify after the family of Martin Ndung'u, who was arrested for allegedly being drunk, sued to have the law enforcers compelled to produce him either alive or dead.

Mystery has deepened over the disappearance of Mr Ndung'u, 37, since he was arrested in Dandora, Nairobi on October 17 last year.

In the case before High Court judge Grace Macharia, the family through their lawyer, Thomas Ouya, said Ndung'u has never come back home and that they have not managed to find his body in mortuaries after a long search. They said his last known account was that he was in the hands of police at Buru Buru Police Station.

But police hold two narratives on Ndung'u. According to an occurrence book record produced in court, he was allegedly released on October 18, 2014 at 2:30pm after he allegedly fell ill.

Another has it that he was taken to Mama Lucy Hospital and one day later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he allegedly succumbed. The case will be heard on July 2.
