NAIROBI, KENYA: A 68-year-old man was Sunday morning shot and seriously wounded in a robbery incident in Parklands area, Nairobi.
The man was dropping a female friend aged 26 at an apartment when three gunmen struck and shot him twice in the stomach and chest. He is admitted to Aga Khan Hospital in a stable but serious condition and police say they are yet to get the attackers.
Police say the gang robbed the victim of his mobile phone, unknown amount of cash and other valuables before escaping.
Elsewhere, two suspected thugs were Saturday shot dead an AK 47 rifle recovered from them in a botched robbery in Jerusalem area, Nairobi. Police say the men were planning a robbery when they were stopped. They were shot as they alighted from a car and witnesses say some accomplices managed to escape. A hunt on the other suspects is ongoing within Kiambiu slums where they escaped.
And two suspected thugs were lynched by a mob in Kayole area, Nairobi. The men are said to have been part of a gang that has been terrorising residents in the area. They were attacked as they tried to escape and stoned to death.
Cases of armed robbery are on the rise during the Christmas season. Police have been deployed to major streets to contain the situation.
