Nairobi, Kenya: The spouse to double world champion Vivian Cheruiyot was Friday attacked and robbed of Sh350,000 and his car in Ngong area, Nairobi.

Police said Moses Kirui Kiplagat was driving alone to a construction site they own in Ngong town when three gunmen struck.

The gang then took control of Kiplagat’s Toyota Prado, bundled him to the back seat and drove around with him onboard before dumping him in Nkoroi area.

Ngong OCPD Farah Mohamed said the gang handed Kiplagat Sh1,000 and a torch and told him to find his way back.

“He was not hurt in the robbery but they harassed him while looking for cash and other valuables in the car. The victim says he was going to pay his workers when he was attacked,” said Mohamed.

The police boss added they had not recovered the car by Sunday noon and no arrest had been made yet.

Mohamed said the attack took place at Kiplagat’s gate at about 8.30pm. He said the hunt on the gunmen and the missing car is ongoing.

Kiplagat is a former prisons warder and is also an athlete. He is also Vivian’s coach and manager.

Cheruiyot is the reigning double World, World Cross, Commonwealth 5,000m and African 5,000m champion since 1998 when she first competed.

Meanwhile, a man was Saturday night shot and seriously wounded in a robbery at his compound in Chokaa area, Nairobi.

Police said a gang had raided the compound, robbed the occupants of their cash and valuables and was leaving when the victim confronted them.

It was then that they shot him in the stomach and seriously wounded him. The gang escaped on foot and no arrest has been made. Police said the victim was rushed to hospital in the city where he is admitted in a stable condition.
