Public Service Commission defends Principal Secretaries list

Kenya: The Public Service Commission (PSC) has defended the list of Principal Secretaries it forwarded to President Uhuru Kenyatta saying they were selected in a transparent manner.

PSC was responding to a suit filed by Consumer Federation of Kenya (Cofek), which is seeking to stop the appointment of the officials claiming the recruitment process was flawed.

The commission said although the names have been forwarded to the President, the process is not yet complete, as the applicants will still have to be vetted by National Assembly.

“It is clear that there are no reasons for the process to be stopped and the petition is premature and should be dismissed,” said PSC’s Lawyer Mwangi Njoroge.

Cofek wanted the court to issue an order stopping implementation of PSC’s decision.

The consumer organisation is aggrieved that members of the public were locked out of the recruitment process.

“Owing to the flawed process mired with suspicion and one that is already tainted and discredited by, among others, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, any action by either the President and Parliament should be halted, “said Cofek’s Secretary General Stephen Mutoro.
