KCB Women’s Volleyball Team Captain Edith Wisa has said the team is shifting its attention to Saturday’s return leg fixture of the Kenya Volleyball Federation League playoffs final after losing 3-0 to rivals Kenya Prisons earlier on Friday at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.
The Japheth Munala led team were outclassed and outsmarted by their opponents who won by sets of 26-24, 25-16, and 25-17 to seal their victory in the season-ending playoffs final first leg.
Commenting after the game, captain Edith Wisa said: “Nothing worked for us today, our attacks, services, blocks and game plan did not go as we had planned. However, we are not giving up just yet, we still have tomorrow to redeem ourselves and to compete. I wish to note that we also missed Mercy Moim who is like a mother to us, she helps the team a lot.”
Talented attacker Sharon Chepchumba was subbed off in the early stages of the game following an injury, which the coach says has massively affected his team.
Munala, who is well known for making bold decisions, entrusted Juliana Namutira with attacking duties but the outside hitter did not maximise on her opportunity. Meanwhile, Edith Wisa and Belinda Barasa were caught many times by Prison’s attackers.
“We knew the match was going to be tough from the onset. We didn't start well and we paid dearly for our poor services and defense. As Champions, we need to quickly recollect and bounce back to have a chance to reclaim our title,” added Wisa.
The bankers will take on the same opponent on Saturday from 2pm at the same venue as they aim to turn their fortunes around.
