Kilifi South FC thrashed Ganze FC 4-1 on post-match penalties to emerge winners of the Kilifi Edition of the ongoing Dola Super Cup football tournament being played across coastal counties.

The match, watched by a mammoth crowd at the historic Alaskan Grounds in Malindi, had ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time before the spot kicks separated the men from the boys.

In the Lamu County edition, Hindi 'A' edged Mkomani 'A' 1-0, courtesy of a Mohamed Hussein's strike, to carry the day in the final played at Mokowe Primary School Grounds.

The champions were peerless in the tournament contested by 12 teams from the region, humiliating Hongwe FC 4-1 and  Mkomani 'B' 3-0 in the preliminaries before piping Bahari '1' FC 1-0 in the semis.

Despite being unlucky in the final, Mkomani 'A' still produced the man of the match in Hamza Said whose exemplary performance was applauded.

While hailing the tournament Dola Head Of Marketing Sadam Suleiman stated: " The Lamu edition brought teams as far as  Kiunga and Basuba, the players had the opportunity to get exposure and showcase their raw talent.

"The tournament also attracted scouts and managers of Football Kenya Federation Super League and Premier League teams who were present to spot talents."

Kilifi South and Hindi 'A' will now represent their regions in the tournament's Grand Finale in Mombasa on August 21, 2024.

The Grand Finale, that has a Sh1 million prize money for the champion, will be contested by winners from all six coastal counties.

The action now shifts to the Taita Taveta County edition finals to be held this weekend.

Mombasa County Football Association Chairman Juma  Goshi said he was hopeful that the new talents identified from the tournament will soon get places in top-flight clubs to further their football careers.

Malindi Sub County administrator Dadu Chome thanked sponsors of the tournament noting that their kind gesture is helping to grow the sport in the coastal region.

"There is a great focus on rehabilitating the county stadiums to support sports activities and ensure seamless growth of talents," said Chome.
