An early morning prayer to God paved the way to Mother Janet Wasike and Son Fidel Wasike to sweep top prizes at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
The Kericho Golf Club member and also a member of Nyali and Mombasa Golf Clubs, handicap 27 Janet Wasike had every reason to celebrate after producing an amazing 45 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner of the Predator Energy Golf tournament, beating a team of 168 golfers.
On the other hand, her 16 years old Son Fidel playing off handicap 11 carded 38 points to emerge the Best Junior and was also the Longest Drive Men winner of the day.
“We woke up early in the Morning, prayed to God before coming to the Course and the prayer was answered. The family has also invested a lot in this game, today its really amazing to be the winners and it’s a big celebration for us.
“In fact, I have not been on the podium for quite long and today my chipping and putting was on point, greens playing well and am sending a warning shot to my lady colleagues coming for the forthcoming Coast Ladies Open Golf tournament, that I will definitely be the Lady to watch, “said Janet.
The event was supported by Coca Cola’s Coastal Bottlers under their brand can energy drink ‘Predator’ which attracted golfers from the home Club, Mombasa Sea-link,Vipingo Baobab, Malindi, guests and staffs with valid handicaps and others from other Clubs across the Country.
It was graced by among others the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Coast Representative James Gitonga and Seth Adu Baah who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Coastal Bottlers.
South African based Kenyan Golfer Andrew Wahome playing off handicap 2 returned a three over par 74 gross to emerge the gross winner and handicap 26 Evans Murumba on a count back score of 42 points was the Men winner.
Murumba had tied on the same score with Men runners up placed handicap 14 Dinesh Sasan who is also the Club Captain and taking the third slot on a point behind was handicap 14 Raajveer Dhanjal.
Joyce Kamau playing off handicap 25 was the Lady winner on a count back score of 39 points tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 29 Dinivah Ongaki.
The Best senior was handicap 20 Johnson Wamunyua on 40 points and handicap 18 Justine Ongere of Mombasa Golf Club with 38 points was declared the winner of Invited Coastal Clubs.
Dr. Dinesh Soni playing off handicap 33 was the high handicap 28+ Men winner on 46 points and the same for the Lady was claimed by handicap 47 Susan Airo who had a score of 45 points.
Gladys Mweni and Omar Lewa were the Longest Drive Lady and nearest to the pin on 3.4 feet winners respectively.
Elsewhere at Machakos Country Club course on the same day, handicap 9 Bill Kalya carded an excellent 41 points to emerge the overall winner of the Gen.Musonba golf tournament.
Handicap 16 Felix Kiamba was the Men winner on a count back score of 40 points after tying on the same score with handicap 17 Joe Mboya who was the runners up while handicap 19 Dee Kivuva settled for the third slot on 39 points.
Handicap 21 Felisters Mutinda brought 40 points to win the Lady’s title beating handicap 36 Felistas Mativo to the runners up position by a three points difference.
The Guest prize on 32 points was won by handicap 19 Edwin Ondiek while handicap 6 H.Wanyama on 38 points and handicap 25 David Rumo with 37 points were the KDF winner and runners up respectively.
Mombasa based handicap 30 Orpha Wamaitha returned 36 points to emerge the KDF lady winner and Joy Njagi playing off handicap 41 was the runners up on 35 points.
Jones Nzau playing off handicap 24 brought a count back score of 37 points to win the Senior prize after tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 24 John Maingi.
Handicap 41 Cosmas Musyoka on 36 points and handicap 43 Christabelle Ochiel with 40 points were the high handicap 29+ Men and 37+ lady winners respectively.
