Onsomu soars during UKC funday at Railway

A calculated game plan saw Noah Onsomu clinch the United Kenya Club member's and family experience golf day overall title at Kenya Railway Golf club layout over the weekend.

Onsomu who the clu​b's Vice-chairman fired a  round total of 37 stableford points off handicap 27 to lead by example.

Presented by Absa, City Eye Hospital, 1000 Lenses, Thrive Beauty, HPaysa and Maasai Beads.

Saw early morning golfers struggle through their rounds due the heavy showers that pounded nine-hole course.

Among them, Onsomu who managed to maintain his tempo, navigating through his round tactfully to victory.

The skies held for a better part of the afternoon but none of the 98 golfers who graced the daylong meet could surpass Onsomu's score.

"It was a tough one having to play in the rain but I decided to play bogey golf and somehow I'm here the winner," he said in his speech.

UKC is a social club and has no course of their own and opted to host their tournament at KRGC for its members experience.

"The response from this engagement has been overwhelming as we took the opportunity to reach out to prospective members/clubs whom we don't reciprocate with and we've seen a lot of prospects." Dr Mwamba Mugambi, General Manager UKC noted.

The three leg series will head to Ruiru Sports Club before winding in October at Vetlab Sports Club. 

Another handicap 27, Alexander Mbugua was crowned the United Kenya Club winner on a score of 30 stableford points. Caesar Nyagah was second on a score of 29 stableford points.

Diva Make a Mwenda donned the ladies gong on a score of 33 stableford points playing off handicap 30.

Best among the visiting golfers was JM Ndung'u playing off handicap 13 to take the Guest winner prize on a score of 36 stableford points relegating former KRGC Chairman Laban Gathungu on countback to  Guest winner second also on a similar score of 36 stableford points.

Toiling the most on the course was Timothy Odhiambo playing off handicap 28 upon picking a paltry, nine points. 

Six twos were registered by, Laban Gathungu (6), Wachira Nguru (13), Pro Samuel Njoroge(6), Anthony Maingi(14), Eric Ngega(4) and Nathan Njuguna(15).

Newly elected KRGC Chairman Jonathan Marucha, Vice-chairman Nathan Njuguna, Captain Edward Manywanda, Greenkeeper Tom Osoro and Pro Jacob Okello were all presented with Hidden holes by UKC management presented at the prize giving gala by members of the board of directors George Kinyanjui and top management team.
