The 2024-2025 FKF Women’s Premier League kicked off in thrilling fashion over the weekend, with defending champions Kenya Police Bullets setting pace by overpowering Kisped Queens 3-0 in their opening match.

The win puts Police Bullets at the summit of the standings with three points and an impressive goal difference, sending a clear message that they are determined to retain their title.

Assistant coach Habib Hussein expressed satisfaction with the team's opening performance, highlighting their preparedness and execution on the pitch.

“We’ve been working hard during the pre-season, and it was important to start strongly. Our focus on keeping possession and making quick transitions worked perfectly for us,” said Hussein.

Despite the convincing win, Hussein said the team cannot afford to become complacent if they are to replicate last season’s success.

“Defending a title is always harder than winning it. This season will be more competitive, and we need to maintain our intensity throughout. It’s going to take consistent hard work, discipline, and focus in every match if we want to stay on top,” he said.

Behind Police Bullets on the standings are newcomers Trinity Starlets, who made a spectacular debut in the top-tier league by beating Bunyore Starlets 3-0.

The Starlets proved they are no pushovers, with an impressive display of football that has sent a strong message to the rest of the league. Their offense was quick, and they capitalised on defensive lapses by Bunyore to secure the three points and three goal difference.

Elsewhere, five-time champions Vihiga Queens also made a winning start, albeit in a more tightly contested match. They managed a narrow 1-0 victory over Ulinzi Starlets in Kisumu, showing their resilience and determination to reclaim the title they lost to Police Bullets last season.

In another fixture, Zetech Sparks edged Kisumu All Starlets 1-0, putting themselves in the top half of the standings after a hard-fought win. Kisumu, playing at home, will feel disappointed with the result, as they missed several clear-cut chances to at least earn a draw.

The victory puts Zetech Sparks level on points with Police Bullets, Vihiga Queens, and Trinity Starlets, all on three points after match-day one.

After the first round of matches, the league table sees Kenya Police Bullets lead with their superior goal difference, followed by Trinity Starlets, Kibera Soccer Women, Mombasa Olympic, and Vihiga Queens, who all picked up wins.
