Rogers Wasega Obusu's dream of playing in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League has come true after making his debut for Nairobi City Stars in their first game of the 2024-25 season.

The teenager, signed in February from Laiser Hill Academy, played a full 90 minutes in City Stars' 1-1 draw against Bidco United last weekend on Saturday at Dandora Stadium.

Wasega, brimming with excitement after the match, reflected on his debut, marking a significant moment in his football career.

"I am elated that finally I got to feature in the Kenyan Premier League after a seven-month wait," he shared. "It was a nice game, the intensity was high, and I did not feel the pressure as much as it was my first game. I thank the coaches for trusting me and motivating me."

The 19-year-old defender was introduced to the City Stars squad last season, making the bench on eight occasions against teams like Gor Mahia, Shabana, and Tusker.

However, a planned debut in the penultimate game of the previous season against Sofapaka was derailed due to an unfortunate injury from a cut finger.

Now, with his long-awaited debut complete, Wasega is setting his sights higher. "After the debut, I now look forward to featuring in a lot more games. With the coaches’ guidance, I know I will continue getting better and better," he said confidently.

His performance against Bidco United was notable, especially for a crucial added-time goal-line clearance that preserved the 1-1 draw. "I just finished my run as the coaches usually insist. And yes, it led to a super save," he added with a smile.

Under head coach Nicholas Muyoti, Wasega becomes the 23rd player to make his Premier League debut for City Stars since the 2021-22 season. His rise to topflight status highlights City Stars' commitment to developing young talent, and Wasega is now determined to establish himself as a key player in the team.

With this debut, Wasega is ready to take on the challenges of the Premier League and build a promising career with Simba wa Nairobi.
