Nakuru Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) defeated Molo 10-8 to bag the Christmas Invitational Boxing Championships at Madison Square Garden in Nakuru, on Saturday night.

Coming after recent wrangles that threatened to split the club, Nakuru made good use of their new coach Noor Said, a former boxer who led the young team to victory.

Nakuru ABC head coach Noor Said said they have started the rebuilding process of the club back to its former glory.

Dominic Mwangi opened the scores for Molo with a win over Martin Ngugi of Nakuru in minimumweight before Joseph Njogu replied for the juniors after overcoming Josiah Gitau of Molo on points.

Erick Ng’ang’a of Molo made a comeback by flooring homeboy Henry Wang’ombe in the flyweight.

Amos Korir of Molo also picked points for his team after overwhelming Dennis Karanja of Nakuru in the welterweight.

“It was not an easy game, but I gave a good account of myself emerging victorious,” said Korir.

In the same weight (welter), homeboy Clinton Odhiambo floored Godfrey Njoroge of Molo ahead of teammate Mary Njenga beating Mercy Mwaniki of Nakuru in the ladies’ minimumweight bout.

Nakuru regained their winning formula after Vincent Gitahi walloped Gerald Mike of Molo in the cruiserweight, winning on unanimous points’ decision.
