National women’s volleyball champions KCB are just two steps away from reclaiming their Africa Women Volleyball Club Championships title after beating local rivals Kenya Prisons by straight sets in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.

All the three sets did not come easy for the bankers who claimed them 25-20, 25-22 and 25-17 respectively to cruise to the semi-finals at Al Ahly Sporting Arena in Cairo.

The Edith Wisa-captained side played as per technical director Paul Bitok’s instructions of taking every opponent seriously.

Following their impressive performance in the quarter-finals, Bitok is confident the team will reclaim the title they last won two years ago.

“Our service must improve if we are to reach the finals and win the title after we lost balls on 16 services today (yesterday). Otherwise, the girls played well and if they continue like this up to the finals, we could win the title,” Bitok told Standard Sports on phone from Cairo last evening.

However, he was happy with the spirit of his players in the match, singling out the quartet of Juliana Namutira, Esther Mutinda, Edith Wisa and Mercy Moim as the outstanding players against the wardresses.

“If we continue with the same spirit, we’ll reach the finals and win the title,” said Bitok.

“We managed to receive well making all our attack formations work well and easier to separate blocks of our opponents.”

The bankers will face the winners between defending champions Zamalek and Mayo Kane Evolution of Cameroon.
