KCB launched their 2024-25 Kenya Cup campaign in style with a commanding 95-5 victory over debutants South Coast Pirates at the KCB Sports Club.

The Bankers opened their account through Bob Muhati, who scored the first try of the season following a clever close-range assist from captain Jacob Ojee.

Ojee quickly followed up with two more tries, completing a hat trick within the first half. Eric Miheso and Felix Ojow added to the tally, ensuring KCB took a dominant 38-00 lead into halftime, with Isaac Njoroge converting successfully.

The second half saw the Bankers pick up even stronger. Muhati secured his second try of the match, while Andy Cole Omollo, Brian Wahinya, Isaac Njoroge, and substitute Austin Sikutwa crossed the line to cement KCB’s emphatic win. Lionel Anjeliti stepped up for the conversion duties in the second half.

South Coast Pirates managed a consolation try through Collins Kabayo, marking their first-ever score in Kenya Cup history.

Oliver Mang’eni, speaking after his first Kenya Cup game as the Head Coach noted that the team still needs development to ensure it competes effectively in the Kenya Cup.

“We missed a lot of chances, which we need to build on in the subsequent games to come. We are not fully ourselves, and this game was a great test of our preparedness as we start the new season. We are going to focus on sealing the loopholes and ensuring we grab maximum points in all the games to come.”

KCB will travel to Kisumu this coming weekend for a fixture against Kisumu RFC.

“We have a big squad. Today, we were just making trials for the first team, and we are happy with the outcome. The next games are crucial as we hope to build a formidable squad to challenge for trophies in the Kenya Cup,” he added.
