KCB 7s head coach Denis Mwanja has expressed his confidence in his squad ahead of Kakamega Ingo 7s rugby tournament at the Kakamega Showground on August 3-4.

The bankers had a false start in the opening leg of the 2024 National Sevens Circuit last weekend when they finished fifth at the Christie 7s after they overpowered rivals Menengai Oilers 27-12 in the fifth playoff final.

Speaking ahead of the tournament at the KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka, Mwanja said: “We are excited about another opportunity to go out and play. It is going to be a great weekend for us, we pick ourselves up from the false start in the opening leg of the series. We do not have any pressure at all. Our mentality is to do the basics right and fight for every opportunity. The result will take care of itself.

Mwanja tipped winger Michael Wamalwa who will be part of the squad to shine at the tournament, alluding that the youngster is fast, versatile and hungry for trophies, also a future Shujaa prospect.

“I call upon KCB fans to turn up in large numbers at the forest to support the team. Their invaluable support has been a driving force in our successes and we don’t take it for granted. Whenever you play for the green jersey there is always pressure to perform so, we are going out there to redeem ourselves and to showcase KCB’s might,” noted player Bob Muhati.

Mwanja, is yet to name his traveling squad for the Kakamega edition but the tactician is expected to include Bob Muhati, Michael Wanjala, Gabriel Namusasi, Levy Amunga, Elvis Olukusi, Brian Wahinya among others in his team for the weekend.

Shujaa players Vincent Onyala, Samuel Asati and Festus Shiasi are not part of the squad as they are currently serving their 10 days mandatory rest from the Kenya Rugby Union following their participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The team will leave for Kakamega tomorrow morning for the grueling action-packed weekend – the second leg of the series.
