Mwakitama wins Sigona lady captain prize

A whooping 44 stableford points presented youngster Maryam Mwakitama with the Sigona Golf Club Lady Captain (Michelle Muhanda) overall prize over the weekend.

Mwakitama 17, a talented junior golfer, outshined a field of 280 golfers who were part of the 676 field that participated in the three-day meet.

Sponsored by Unga Limited, Dairyland and Haven Wines among others. Playing off a decent handicap 9, she was off the front tee at 12:32 pm in the scorching sun to participate and enjoy a round but ended up the eventual winner.

She couldn't hold back her joy while reading her speech and thanked Allah for enabling her to win.

"First and foremost, I thank Allah for this great win and my playing partners who urged me on. I'm grateful for your positive company," Mwakitama said.

The overall lady winner's second prize was won by Lizhu Feng playing off handicap 36 upon returning a score of 35 stableford points.

Picking the overall lady winner third prize was Pengjuan Xie with a score of 35 stableford points off handicap 31, Shobna Patel was fourth with 32 stableford points, and Janki Patel and Lily Kanyatta were placed fifth and sixth with 31 and 30 stableford points each.

Taking the honours in the men's category by claiming the Men winner prize was David Kerosine playing off handicap 18, upon posting 42 stableford points. Handicap 23, Dilip Varsani chalked 41 stableford points to take the Men winner second prize, with a score of 41 stableford points. Imran Nanji playing off handicap five raked in 75 Gross points to bag the Gross prize.

Among the visiting golfers, George Kabuuri returned a score of 36 stableford points off handicap 19 to emerge as the Guest Men winner with a better count-back score than the Guest winner second, Edgar Munene as they both registered the same score of 36 stableford points.

In the commercials, junior golfer, Darsh Khillan Shah, won the Nearest to the Pin Men prize with the Nearest to the Pin Lady prize, being won by Zipporah Gichigi.

Taking the Longest Drive Men winner prize was Imran Nanji. Mwakitama returned to the podium to collect the Longest Drive Lady winner prize. Salina Shah was declared the Best Effort winner with 16 stableford points.
