Isaac Matubia fired 36 stableford points to win the sixth leg of the 2024 NCBA Golf Series at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club on Saturday.

The 40-year-old father of two attributed his glory to his ability to maintain the ball on the greens in the cutthroat showpiece.

“I kept focus on my play, but more importantly, I avoided the roughs,” he told Standard Sports.

“I used the Champions League challenge we normally have at the club to prepare for this tournament. The challenge has helped me to keep my fitness and improve my golfing skills.”

And how does he feel about the sweet weekend victory that took him by surprise?

“I feel great. It feels good. I haven’t won anything in a long time. The victory is yet to sink in. Winning this big series is a clear reminder that I should not sit on my laurels. I’ll keep on practicing.”

“I love the tournament. The brand is great and this is a fantastic initiative that is helping to promote the sport across the country.”

By virtue of winning the Muthaiga showdown, Matubia qualified for the 2024 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale to be staged later in the year and this is already enough motivation to keep him on his toes.

“I’ll keep on playing and enjoying the game, but more importantly, I’m going to sharpen my skills on the range.

"I want to work on improving my techniques. This, I believe, will give me an edge over my opponents during the Grand Finale,” the former Muthaiga Golf Club Captain Prize winner (2020) added.

Matubia said that some of the benefits he has gained from playing golf includes high level fitness, networking and a peaceful mind.
