Gor Mahia’s striker Benson Omalla is the 2024 FKF Premier League golden boot award winner.

Omalla won the award after finishing the 2023-2024 season with 19 goals capped on Sunday after he helped Gor Mahia crown their record extending 21st Premier League title with a 4-2 win over Bidco United at Machakos Stadium.

Omalla’s achievement marked a significant moment for Gor Mahia as the club concluded the league with 73 points, a marked improvement from their 70-point finish last season.

The race for the Golden Boot was intensely competitive up to the last moments of the season as John Makwata of Kariobangi Sharks and Tito Okello of Kenya Police challenged Omalla for the title.

Omalla entered the match with 17 goals closely followed by Okello who had found the net 16 times and Makwata with 15 goals.

Two goals pushed Omalla to 19 goals while Makwata went level on goals with Okello both with 16 goals after the South Sudan international limped off injured during the last game of the season.

The golden boot award will be dear to Omalla who missed out on the gong last year despite scoring 26 goals.

A late surge from former AFC Leopards striker Elvis Rupia saw the Harambee Stars striker set a new record with 27 goals, surpassing the 47-year-old record by a single goal, while Omala finished with 26.
