Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has nominated Evans Kipruto Kapkea as the county's new deputy governor following the resignation of John Barorot.

Barorot resigned on Monday, August 19.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 21, the Governor’s Press Director Silah Koskei said Kapkea’s name has been forwarded to the County Assembly for vetting.

Kapkea, a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Tembelio Ward, holds a Bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Eldoret and is pursuing a Master’s degree in the same field at Moi University.

He has served as the chairperson of the Trade, Industrialisation, Tourism and Investment Committee in the County Assembly.

He is also a member of the Budget, Finance and Appropriation Committee, the Health Committee and the Delegated Legislation Committee.

"Kapkea has shown commitment to public service," said Koskei, adding that his experience in various committees makes him suitable for the role of deputy governor.

Kapkea has previously served as the chairperson of the Parents Association at Tembelio Secondary School, where he was credited with academic and infrastructural improvements.

At the same time, Governor Bii announced the reassignment of several chief officers within the county government.

The reassigned officers include Ambrose Kiprotich Tarus to Administration and Devolution, Naomi Jelagat Tirop to Public Service Management and Victorine Kapkiyai to Trade, Investments and Industrialisation among others.

The County Assembly is expected to review Kapkea’s nomination in the coming days.
