The much-anticipated conferment of city status to Eldoret town has been postponed for one week.
The ceremony, which was to be presided over by President William Ruto on Thursday, has been pushed to August 15.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii said the decision was made following a communique from State House.
“Following a communication from the Office of the President, the conferment of Eldoret city status to Eldoret municipality has been postponed for a week, from August 8, 2024, to August 15, 2024,” Bii said.
The new conferment will coincide with the State concert to be staged at the Eldoret State Lodge after the ongoing 96th edition of the Kenya Music Festival, happening at the Moi Girls’ High School Eldoret.
Bii noted that the preparations for the event will continue, adding that the extra week will give the county more time to finalise all arrangements.
The county has in the past weeks rolled out many projects including the upgrade of infrastructure and cleaning of the town.
