Public participation in the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will extend to Saturday, following a directive from the National Assembly Clerk to hold the exercise at the constituency level.

"Further to the public participation exercise which commenced on October 2, and the collection of views on October 4, all 290 constituency offices and the 47 county women representative offices, under the Parliamentary Service Commission, will remain open on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to facilitate further public input on the Special Motion," the Clerk announced.

The collected views will be forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly ahead of the impeachment hearing scheduled for Tuesday next week.

The directive follows a High Court ruling in Kerugoya, ordering that public participation be organised at the constituency level.

The ruling came after Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina filed a petition arguing that county-level participation was not giving citizens a meaningful chance to present their views.

Friday’s public participation was marred by chaos and confusion in parts of Nairobi, Nakuru, and other regions, while areas like West Pokot saw a low turnout.
