Several people are feared trapped after a storey building under construction collapsed in Rongo, Migori County.

Rongo Sub-County Police Commander Salim Fundi said rescue efforts are underway.

According to him, an unknown number of people are still trapped in the rubble following the incident that happened at around 3pm.

"An excavator has been brought to help in rescuing those trapped,” said Mr Fundi.

Migori County Secretary Oscar Olima who also rushed with Migori County government's emergency response team to the scene said already one woman had been rescued and rushed to Migori County Referral Hospital for treatment.

"Our ambulances and heavy equipment are on site. Our first responders are also there. We are right in the middle of the rescue," said Dr Olima.
