An NG-CDF driver has been arraigned in court over the murder of a bouncer in Homa Bay County.
Kennedy Ogalo Osano, a driver of a vehicle owned by Kasipul NGCDF, was arraigned in Oyugis court over the murder of Evans Okoda in the Rawinji area in Oyugis town on the night of May 2 and 3.
Okoda was found dead in the compound of his rented house in Oyugis town with serious injuries on his head while his right fingers were chopped off at the wrist.
In a testimony given in court by Rachuonyo South Sub-County Criminal Discrimination Investigations Officer David Kiriu, Osano's phone call data linked him with the murder.
"He made a lot of phone calls between May 2 afternoon and on May 3 in Oyugis town. We gathered call data which linked Osano with the incident," Kirui said.
Kirui said they had gathered a lot of data whose analyses are yet to be completed.
He said they still needed more time to continue holding Osano in their custody to enable them to complete their investigations.
Prosecutor Churchil Ogema also urged the court to grant the Directorate of Criminal Investigations more time to continue holding Osano.
“This is a matter of public interest and the case is still under investigation. I appeal to the court to grant the investigation officers more time,” Ogema said.
Oyugis Resident Magistrate Cynthia Cheruiyot granted the DCI seven more days to continue holding the suspect.
“The application of seven days to continue holding the suspect by the DCI is granted. The case will be mentioned on May 14 when further directions will be given,” Cheruiyot said.
The order will enable police to continue to hold him at Oyugis Police Station.
