Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has called on the National Environment Management Authority of Kenya (NEMA) to launch a major crackdown on noise pollution in Nairobi County.
Through his official X account, Duale stated that the crackdown would eventually evolve into a nationwide anti-pollution campaign.
“I have directed NEMA's Nairobi office to launch a major crackdown on pollution, targeting noise from clubs, night construction, improper waste disposal, and air quality,” he stated.
According to Duale, the crackdown will involve a multi-agency team that will conduct raids in entertainment joints and construction sites, including factories, while enforcing environmental laws.
“The multi-agency operation, led by NEMA Police Unit, marks the beginning of a nationwide anti-pollution campaign,” Duale added.
At the same time, the CS has announced that clubs with no soundproofing will not be permitted in residential areas.
This warning comes a day after Duale ordered the closure of Fay Bistro in Kilimani, Nairobi over what residents stated was noise pollution.
