Lands Cabinet Secretary nominee Alice Wahome reported a net worth increase of Sh109 million over the past two years.
During her vetting on Thursday, August 1 before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, Wahome stated her and her husband’s current net worth is Sh327 million.
“It’s Sh327,675,000. When you vetted me last time, I was worth Ksh218,400,000,” she told MPs.
The CS nominee attributed the increase in her net worth to property appreciation, further explaining that a tenant who had not been paying rent settled a debt of Sh14 million in March.
She noted that she and her husband jointly accumulated their assets.
Wahome is seeking a second approval to serve as CS in the Ministry of Lands, a position she previously held before being dismissed by President William Ruto.
In Ruto’s first Cabinet, she initially served as CS for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation.
Affordable Housing
If confirmed by Parliament, Wahome will oversee land issues and the controversial affordable housing program.
She defended the housing project, noting that it has employed over 106,000 youth countrywide and revealed plans to extend the initiative to rural areas if approved.
