The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of the Nakuru-Eldoret (A8) Road at Timboroa market.

In a statement on Thursday, KeNHA Director-General Kung'u Ndung'u said the road has been closed following destruction by floods that led to a section exposed to a possible collapse.

“KeNHA regrets to notify the public of the closure of Nakuru-Eldoret (A8) Road at Timboroa Market. This follows the destruction by stormwater this morning which has left a section of the road exhibiting signs of a possible collapse."

Road users have been cautioned against any attempts to use that section of the road and have been rerouted to a diversion within the Timboroa area.

The closure comes amidst heavy downpours across the country, especially in the Rift Valley region.

So far, the flooding in the country has claimed 188 lives, with 90 people still missing.

Some one hundred and twenty-five others have been injured and approximately 165,500 persons displaced across the country.
