After a decade in politics, former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana is returning to his academic roots, embracing a new chapter in his career. The scholar, who spent 25 years teaching law at the University of Nairobi (UoN) before diving into politics, has now joined Daystar University Law School.
In a post shared on social media, Prof Kibwana said: “I thank God for opportunity to serve at Daystar University Law School after a previous 25-year stint at UoN. Another new beginning. I look forward to engagement in the programme from January 2025.”
From the corridors of government to the lecture halls at Daystar University, Prof Kibwana’s journey is a testament to the power of education, service, and the impact one individual can have on an entire generation.
This transition marks a homecoming for the Harvard-trained constitutional law expert, whose impressive academic journey has taken him across some of the world's most prestigious institutions.
Armed with degrees from the University of Nairobi, the University of London, Harvard, and The George Washington University, Prof Kibwana's intellectual prowess is matched by his deep commitment to public service.
His political journey began when he was elected Makueni Member of Parliament in 2003, before being appointed Minister for Environment and Natural Resources, and Acting Minister of Lands. But it was his tenure as Makueni’s first governor that cemented his legacy in public service.
Under his leadership, Makueni became a model for effective governance, known for its visionary service delivery and development projects.
Now, as he returns to the classroom, Prof Kibwana brings with him not only his vast legal expertise but also the wisdom of a lifetime spent in public service. His role at Daystar University offers law students a rare opportunity to learn from a distinguished leader who has not only studied the law but lived it.
The former governor’s passion for mentoring the next generation is clear.
“Where the youth are, I pray I always be there,” reflects his deep desire to continue inspiring and guiding young minds.
The Daystar community stands to benefit immensely from his knowledge, leadership, and unwavering commitment to shaping Kenya’s future legal and political landscape.
