More than 900 lecturers at Moi University went on strike commenced over salary arrears.

Chairperson of University Academic Staff Union (UASU), Moi University branch, Dr Richard Okero said the teaching staff have not been paid salaries for two months.

They claimed the university management council had ignored a strike notice issued seven days ago. The dons also claim that the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has not been implemented.

The strike affected teaching across all institution’s campuses. “From today, no academic activity will be taking place in Moi University, whether online or physical. We are not going to do supervision and examination of students, both post graduate and undergraduate. We are not going to mark examination scripts for our students and the university is not going to open doors for learning unless our issues are sorted,” Okero stated.

The lecturers said they will only end their strike if their salaries are paid in full and their arrears that have accumulated since 2017 are also paid.
