Kericho County Secretary Wesley Bor has tendered his resignation just three days after the County Assembly approved a motion to impeach him.
Bor was accused of allegedly misappropriating Sh14.5 million, which had been raised for Londiani road accident victims, accusations that led to his impeachment motion.
In his resignation notice to Kericho Governor Dr. Erick Mutai, Bor expressed his willingness to ensure a smooth transition.
“Please accept this letter as a formal one-month notice of my resignation," Bor stated in his letter.
On Tuesday, 40 out of 47 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) unanimously supported the motion to impeach Bor, which was tabled by Kapsaos ward representative Paul Bii.
Among the accusations he faced include those of gross violation of the Constitution, the County Governments Act, the Leadership and Integrity Act, and the County Assemblies Powers and Privileges Act.
Bor is further accused of fabricating evidence, which is a violation of Section 113 (a) and (b) of the Penal Code, and submitting documents purporting to have been signed by County Executive Committee Members Rosemary Rop (Water), Judith Chirchir (Education), Edna Tonui (Public Service), and Daniel Rop (Agriculture).
The documents were allegedly presented to the County Assembly Ad hoc committee investigating the Londiani road accident.
According to Bii, despite his resignation, Bor is under investigation by the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Director of Criminal Investigations and will be held accountable if found guilty.
