Azimio ready to join doctors in demonstrations, says Kalonzo

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has stated that Azimio leaders are prepared to join doctors in street protests in support of their demands if the Kenya Kwanza government cannot address their grievances.

“If there is a need to take to the streets and join the doctors’ protest, then we are ready because you cannot pay salaries to Cabinet Secretaries whilst doctors are being overlooked,” said Kalonzo.

He mentioned that as Azimio, they support the doctors’ strike over their grievances and questioned why Cabinet Secretaries should be paid higher salaries than doctors.

Kalonzo made these statements in Mombasa after meeting Governor Abdulswamad Nassir following his two-day tour of Kwale County. He was accompanied by Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa.

“It is true that these people are the best minds in the country and should be treated with care. Therefore, the government must listen to them,” said Kalonzo.

Fight challenges

Kalonzo warned the Kenya Kwanza government against undermining the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) report, emphasising that as Azimio, they will continue to fight against the challenges faced by Kenyans.

He praised Nassir for his efforts in addressing the issues affecting the people of Mombasa County.

“I want to thank the Mombasa governor for his help to the local residents and for being one of the pillars of Azimio in the country. Keep it up, governor,” said Kalonzo.

The former Vice President expressed regret that the Kenya Kwanza government had not fulfilled its election promises and had instead distributed counterfeit fertilisers to farmers.

“The distribution of counterfeit fertilisers to farmers is concerning. Kenyans are only seeing false promises,” said Kalonzo.

Kalonzo assured Kenyans that Azimio would remain focused on the country’s challenges, adding that the party was stable.

Wamalwa criticised the increase in taxes imposed on Kenyans by the Kenya Kwanza government and dismissed Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah’s claim that the cost of living had decreased because the price of flour had fallen.

Wamalwa warned that Azimio would not tolerate any games played by the Kenya Kwanza government in selecting commissioners for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
