Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers arrested an assistant County Commissioner for allegedly selling relief food.
Kilifi Ganze sub-county assistant County Commissioner Tedy Buya Boyana, reportedly committed the offence while serving in the same capacity at Tana North sub-county, Tana River County, in April 2020.
EACC claims that Boyana stole and sold 105 bags of rice and one bag of beans, valued at Sh550,200, which was in his custody as the assistant County Commissioner of Tana North sub-county.
The assistant County Commissioner was arrested and presented at the EACC North Coast office in Malindi town on Wednesday and later moved to Garissa to face the charges.
EACC North Coast manager Ben Murei said Boyana surrendered when he realised that officers were after him.
"On January 24, 2024, officers from this office went to arrest the suspect, but he finally surrendered after learning that we were after him. He will be transported to Garissa to be arraigned in court," said Murei.
The commission has been investigating the administrator since 2022, and the arrest comes after the Director of Public Prosecution sanctioned his prosecution.
