A county employee is suspected to have died by suicide over defilement allegations.
Suna East sub-county Police commander Ben Kemboi said Dancun Opila's body was found dangling from a tree at his home in Wiarot village, Kiringo sub-location.
Kemboi revealed that a defilement case had been reported to Masara police station in Suna West sub-county on January 10 against the 35-year-old man.
The deceased did not leave behind a suicide note.
Police have launched investigations into the man's death.
"We are still investigating if this suicide is related to a defilement case reported at the station," Kemboi said.
Kiringo sub-location assistant chief Fred Opiyo, said he got a call from a resident about the incident and rushed to the scene.
"At around 11am, I got a phone call from one of my villagers who told me that someone had hanged himself and is dead," Opiyo said.
He noted that Opila's body was found dangling from a tree near the gate of his home at the foot of River Munyu.
The assistant chief said though they could not immediately establish why the man died by suicide, they suspect that it was linked to allegations that he defiled a minor and police were looking for him.
The body was removed to Migori County Referral Hospital's morgue.
