Police have launched investigations into an incident where a 13-year-old girl hacked her mother to death at Kapweria, Trans Mara East in Narok on Thursday.
Police Commander Boniface Kavoo said the suspect is being held at Emurua Dikkir police station as investigation continues.
"The suspect could have been arraigned in court but we requested the court to give us more time to hold the suspect as we conduct miscellaneous investigations, but she is expected to take plea on December 19 once the investigation is completed," Kavoo said.
The police boss said the juvenile picked up a quarrel with her mother over a mobile phone. The suspect used a machete to attack her 55-year-old mother, inflicting deep cuts to her head.
Kavoo said neighbours who heard the cries from the suspect's homestead found her mother writhing in pain and pleading for help.
Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her extensive injuries, and her body was moved to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary in Kericho County.
"It's a scenario where her mother wanted to repossess the phone her daughter was using to chat with," Police Commander Kavoo explained.
"It seems the deceased was a strict mother, and she wasn't happy about her girl doing a lot of communication without her knowledge. The suspect used all means to fight her mother back, which ended in a fatality," he added.
The girl is then accused of attempting to conceal the murder weapon by disposing it in a pit latrine. However, she later confessed to the murder and was taken into custody.
