In a recent engagement with staff, we reflected on the journey KPC has walked since inception in 1973. From this recollection, we all agreed this was a time of immense pride and optimism.
Over the past several decades, the company has evolved from a feathering entity into a remarkable force that plays a pivotal role in Kenya's and regional petroleum landscape. This monumental journey not only symbolises our rich history but also underscores our commitment to sustainable and vibrant future.
KPC journey began with a sole foresight to secure Kenya's and regional petroleum needs as well as boost economic growth for the country and the region. Almost half a century later, we stand as a demonstration to resilience, adaptability, and innovation.
From our modest beginnings, we have expanded our operations, business interests, continuously refined our processes, and embraced top-notch technologies to keep pace with the ever-evolving petroleum sector.
One of our greatest accomplishments has been a reliable and safe transportation of petroleum products. Through our extensive infrastructure, we have been able fuel the nation and the region, driving economic activities and improving the lives of millions of people. Our duty to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence remains firm, and we are satisfied of our strong track record.
To remain dynamic in the ever-changing business environment, we have also diversified our focus, venturing into new frontiers such as fibre optic cable, Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas, LPG, among others.
These endeavours not only align with global trends but also position us as a forward-thinking entity contributing to Kenya's sustainable development goals. We also recognise the importance of addressing climate change and are exploring ways to minimise our carbon footprint. To this end, KPC this year is growing over 500,000 trees across the country in partnership with various stakeholders.
Nonetheless, coming this far has not been without challenges. Our industry has faced volatility, regulatory changes, and external pressures. Yet, each challenge has only served to underpin our determination and foster a culture of innovation. We have learned to adapt, to transform adversity into opportunity, and to emerge stronger and more resilient.
As we look into the future, we also acknowledge and appreciate the incredible contributions of our employees, stakeholders, partners, and the communities we serve. Their unwavering support, dedication, and collaboration have been instrumental in our success.
Looking into the future, there is great potential. We are well positioned to navigate the complexities of an evolving petroleum sector, leverage emerging technologies, and embrace sustainable practices that will shape Kenya's future.
We are alert to the impact of electric vehicles to our business architecture. This is why we are grabbing new business opportunities such as the water bottling facility we are setting up at Sinendet, Nakuru. Even as we do business, we are keen to ensure transparency, accountability, and good governance, ensuring we remain a beacon of integrity in the industry.
Certainly, our journey is a story of growth, transformation, and resilience. We reassert our commitment to fostering a bright and sustainable future for Kenya and the region.
