A man died after he was shot by a gunman in Takaba town, Mandera County, on Tuesday night.
Area OCPD Samson Aengwo said the victim, who was in the company of a friend, was shot in the head during the 9.30 pm incident.
Mr Aengwo said they have already launched investigations into the killing of the 24-year-old Bishar Abdow Maalim.
"We will get to the bottom of this. We are confident our investigations will reveal what exactly happened," he said.
He added: "There has been no report of any link to the al-Shabaab. The victim completed his secondary education last year and has never travelled outside Takaba."
Mandera west peace committee chairman Mohamed Haji Dahir urged residents to remain calm as police investigate the matter.
"As we mourn the unfortunate killing of our young man, let us calm down and give room to the police to investigate the matter," said Dahir as called on the police to speed up investigations into the incident even as it emerged no arrest had been made.
The police have appealed to residents to share information that may help investigations into the incident.
