Police in Kisumu have launched investigations into a theft incident at the Kisumu County Assembly by thugs.

This is after robbers stole TV screens, an audio mixer and public address system from the assembly's chambers at the weekend. The equipment is normally used during assembly sittings.

County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro confirmed the incident. He claimed that unknown individuals gained access to the assembly and stole equipment.

"We would like to clarify that the Hansard records, which are of utmost importance to us, remain intact and have not been tampered with," he said.

The speaker said that assembly proceedings will continue without interruptions despite the incident.

Yesterday, detectives camped at the County Assembly as a probe into the incident kicked off.

Tough questions remain how the robbers accessed the heavily guarded premises that shares a fence with Kisumu Central Police Station.

The premise is also guarded around the clock by armed police officers as well as private security guards.
