At least 17 people from Songoliet village, Lemotit Location in Kipkelion East Sub-County are undergoing treatment at Londiani Sub-county hospital after feasting on uninspected meat.
Lemotit Location Chief Bernard Rono said the victims, comprised of nine adults and eight children, feasted on the meat on Sunday and started developing headaches, stomachaches, diarrhea, and vomiting on Tuesday and were rushed to the facility for treatment.
The administrator said a man from the village slaughtered his sickly cow on Sunday and sold the meat cheaply to the unsuspecting villagers.
Rono said he was on the ground with the public health officers, looking for other people who might have consumed the meat but never sought treatment.
The seller of the uninspected meat, he said went into hiding and is being sought by police.
Rono warned residents against eating uninspected meat.
"Do not risk your lives because of poverty. It is dangerous to consume uninspected meat," Rono advised.
Rono said those in the wards are in stable condition and are responding well to treatment.
He said samples of the meat were dispatched to the National Reference Laboratory for analysis to ascertain the cause of the illness.
