Police in Lugari, Kakamega County have shot dead two suspected criminals.
Lugari Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu told The Standard that the suspects, who were aboard a motorcycle, defied stop orders near Turbo trading centre on Sunday, January 8, and thereafter opened fire.
In the resultant exchange of gunfire, the two suspects were fatally shot, police said.
An AK-47 rifle and several bullets were recovered from the deceased.
"Our officers trailed the two from Mumias. The suspects had been linked to a series of robbery incidents in Kakamega and Trans Nzoia counties," said Ngungu, stating the areas the suspects raided include Shinyalu, Matete, Chimoi and Navakholo.
The Lugari police boss said in some instances, the suspects were caught on surveillance cameras engaging in robbery.
