Anan and Obama: Twins excel in KCPE

Twins Fabrian Obama Makanda and Flavian Anan Makanda,13, are inseparable. They are of the same height and like the same things. They always do things together.

The twins, who were Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates Nyabondo Boarding School in Kisumu County, are looking forward to great things after excelling in their exams. Obama scored 408 marks while Anan managed 392 marks.

Obama and Anan both love football. They have been in the same class throughout their primary education. Obama was index number two, while Anan was index 37.

Their father Victor Makanda, who is also a football fanatic, told The Standard that his sons are great friends. "It is amazing that they also love the same things," Makanda said.

"They love doing things together, be it studying or domestic chores. They are always together. You can be sure that when you see one, the other one is not far," said Mr Makanda, who is the principal of St Anthony Boys Kitale.

The elated father told The Standard that his children have always engaged in a friendly competition between themselves, always challenging one another to be better.

"In most cases, Obama beat his brother," said Makanda adding that Obama and Anan are hoping to join Alliance High School and Nairobi School respectively.

Obama wants to pursue electrical engineering at the university, while his brother aspires to be a neurosurgeon.

Anan said although his brother scored more marks, their friendship is intact.

"Though he beat me with 18 marks, he is my friend. I wouldn't mind us joining the same high school," said Anan.

Obama attributed their success to hard work and encouragement from teachers and parents.
