Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 59-year-old businessman, who took home two youthful women with him on Wednesday night.
Mwea West Sub-County Police Commander Wilson Koskei told The Standard that preliminary investigations suggest the women might have drugged the man with substances that eventually killed him.
Police have identified the deceased as Samuel Irungu Maingi.
Maingi spent Wednesday night at an entertainment joint in Kagio Town, where he was joined by two women.
The three revelled and took alcohol before Maingi decided to go home with the women.
"We suspect that the women drugged and, thereafter, robbed the victim. We have taken samples of the drinks that they were taking in the man's house for examination. We're also waiting for postmortem to reveal what exactly caused Maingi's death," said Mwea West police boss Wilson Koskei.
Police said they discovered Maingi's unclothed body lying on the bed on Thursday morning.
"We're yet to trace the women that he was with," said Koskei.
Maingi was the Executive Secretary of Mwea West Sub-County Bar Owners Association.
"We are worried by the increase in the number of incidents where intoxicated men are drugged by women in Mwea East," said Bernard Githaiga, a bar owner in Kagio Town.
Simon Kimani, the deceased's cousin, said Maingi was living with his partner at his Kagio home.
"On the night he died, his partner was not at home. Maingi entered a new relationship after separating from his first wife," said Kimani.
"We suspect the women drugged and possibly gave him Viagra that had adverse effects on him," said Kimani.
The deceased's son said his father's mobile phone signal was on Thursday traced to Zimmerman, Nairobi before it went off.

Cases of women drugging and stealing from their unsuspecting victims, mostly men, have been rife in Kagio Town.
In September this year, three women were arrested at Kagio Market for allegedly stupefying and stealing Sh17,000 from a Catholic nun.
Peter Kamau, a resident, said the suspects target men that take alcohol or carbonated drinks.
Maingi's body was taken to Kibugi Funeral Home, pending postmortem.
